Fire of the fibery kind
This is "Pele's Gift: Creation and Transformation", usually known as the cape. It's been nudging my brain lately, probably because of the colors and the fact that it represents fire and lava. It's my first large piece of art, and it took me a while to make. Nine years, to be exact. It's been in my head because of the colors, and knowing that some of my smaller pieces of art-hats and scarves- were destroyed when Lahaina Arts Society gallery burned. All my other work is safe, which I am glad for. A number of LAS artists and 'ohana lost their work and their homes to the fire, and just thinking about that breaks my heart.
There's not a lot of new information about the fires and aftermath and all of that quite yet. Much of it is updates on what is already public information, and conjecture about what is to come. We are on the way to What Will Be, but there is a lot of unknown there yet, much of which concerns what to rebuild, how to rebuild, and who will rebuild. The other unknowns concern what happened to start the fires, what went wrong and what went right. It's going to take a long time and need a lot of help from a lot of people. Be well. Stay safe.
